Legal requirements
The minister, as the officiating celebrant at your wedding, must be satisfied that the law is being complied with. For that
reason, you must ensure that there are no legal impediments to your being married. You need, therefore, to approach the local
Registrar, some eight weeks or so before the date of the wedding and give full details. You will each need to take your Birth
Certificates, and any other legal documents which may materially affect your eligibility - e.g. divorce papers, if appropriate,
etc. The Registrar for this District is to be found in Mid Street, next door to the Swimming Pool and opposite St John's Church.
At the beginning of the week in which the marriage will take place, you must return to the Registrar, who will give you a grey
form called the Marriage Schedule. This form is of ultimate importance to your wedding! Without it, the minister is not
permitted to conduct your service and, following the wedding, it must be returned, duly signed, to the Registrar within two
working days. The minister will advise you about this form nearer the time of the wedding.
