Church Arrangements
It may seem elementary, but it is important that you check the availability of church and minister at the very beginning of your
planning. It is no use having a reception all arranged, if the ceremony cannot take place that day, for some reason or other.
Discuss your plans with the minister at every stage. Never be afraid to get in touch to ask questions, as this could resolve
a possible problem before it arises.
The service
The service will be Christian, it will include prayers and Bible readings, a short address and (usually) two hymns. The
service itself is fairly simple and straight-forward and should last between 20 - 30 minutes. The content of the service
is usually determined by the minister, but this is a flexible arrangement, and there is room for 'customising' the service
to include items of your choice - as long as the ethos of the service is not affected. All of this may only be done in
consultation with the minister.
Music
Your choice of hymns is important and you have different things to consider in choosing. Your own taste is a major factor;
what do YOU want to sing? What hymns will be meaningful for you and relevant to the occasion? You must also consider your
guests. What will they be able to sing? The last thing you want is to choose hymns or songs that you like, but nobody knows.
Your guests don't want to hear a solo from the minister!!
Other music also has to be thought about. The entrance of the Bride; the march back out of church at the end; the music that
is played during the signing. Do you wish to have a piper, or some other solo musician, or a singer?
All aspects of the music at your wedding should be discussed with the Organist for your Wedding. The minister will advise you
nearer the time, who will play and how to contact him/her.
